Dear Families of Harpswell Community School Students,
Welcome to Harpswell! I want to highlight the words from the beginning pages of our school handbook for you. It captures our mission and our connection to the greater Harpswell Islands Community so very well!
“Our school is a part of the community and, therefore, reflects the interests and beliefs of our unique and very beautiful location. By stressing respect of self and others, we aim to guide our students to become valuable, contributing and concerned members of their community."
“We share a vision, a collective sense of purpose and direction, focusing our work on the children of the Greater Harpswell Islands Community. This vision requires that we listen to our children, their parents and extended families, their fellow community members, and their teachers as we define how our school will shape the future learning of our youngest citizens in the 21st century."
“We envision our students developing the sense of wonder and joy that is the reward of true learning. We see them sharing this joy with their families, friends, and neighbors as they create a strong bond between our local school and the community that surrounds and supports it. We see this bond as a school within our community as well as a community within our school."
“As we look toward our collective future, our vision includes helping our children grow into responsible adults who (through self-awareness, love of learning, and community service) will pass on our most valued beliefs to future generations of Harpswell citizens.”
We are so pleased to work with you as partners in educating our children and I hope that you will feel welcomed and involved as we work together for your child's learning, success and happiness.
Generally, you will receive information from us in your child’s plastic “take-home” folder throughout the year. Sometimes it will be newsletters and information, other times it might be homework assignments. Please go through this with your child when it comes home. In this take-home folder, you will find information that will be helpful for you for the school year. Sometimes there is information, forms for you to return to us, and notices for you during this year.
In an effort to “go green” we are trying something new. To save paper, instead of sending out HCS handbooks, we are posting them online for those of you who have access to the Internet at http://www.link75.org
. Just click on the “schools” drop down menu to find Harpswell Community School. We also post important information on our Home Page throughout the year. For those of you who prefer a paper version, we are very happy to provide it! Just call Cheryl at 729-5177 or drop us a note. We will make sure that you receive this in your child’s plastic take-home folder.
We do hope you have a wonderful learning experience at Harpswell Communith School. Please let us know if there is any way that we can be of help as partners in your child's education. That's what we are here for!
